![]() ![]() I wish there was a handbook for archival recovery of VHS tapes, that was written in a language I could understand. Per the post below from Mduell, maybe the visible difference for using the filters is only noticeable when you are willing to go to a VerySlow speed? So I think I am sticking with the defaults and just using the Encoder Preset Speed as the main setting I will adjust to improve quality Either I cannot tell the difference, or sometimes one scene looks better but the next one looks worse. In my case, the VHS tapes are so old and of poor quality, that messing with the filters (DeInterlace, Denoise and DeBlock settings) give inconsistent results. If you cannot figure out filters, just worry about that speed setting and go as slow as you can tolerate. But if you are making yours to be viewed mostly on a laptop, then I would suggest using the "Devices" presets.įrom what I understand, the main driver of the quality of the output is really on the VIDEO tab, using the Encoder Preset - the slower you can tolerate, it seems as though to quality gets better. I want to maintain as much quality as possible, so they can be viewed on a large screen - which I don't even have to test. All I can add is that it is worth thinking about how you intend to view them. I hope more people give you feedback on this question. My problem is that most of my old VHS tapes seem to have degraded so much that it is really hard to discern which HandBrake filters and settings make a visible difference. I will worry about optimizing them for the web after I have crafted them into a final montage. In my case I do not care how big the files are, I just want to get the highest quality out of them, as I am going to edit them in their "raw" highest resolution state. So I am trying to figure out what settings are best to use on Handbrake to convert those VOB files to a format I can edit with Pinnacle or DaVinci Resolve. I have been doing a similar project! I have a VHS player with a built in DVD burner, but it only makes DVDs (.VOB files). I'm VERY open to other suggestions in case Handbrake or Camtasia aren't the best solutions here, these are just things I have already. I could probably just use the one of the presets, but I thought I'd ask for help before I wasted time on something I could possibly do better. I checked the Handbrake help about the filters, but it just says coming soon. ![]() I’ve been using Preset for the AppleTV for the last couple of months and wondered today if that was the best setting to use I do want to sell/give them away but before I do I want to make sure I’ve got a decent file to use. I'm hoping you guys can help me with the best quality settings and filters in Handbrake to make these look the best. Best Setting or Preset So I’m looking for convert a lot of my DVDs and BR to digital. I plan to use Handbrake to batch convert my videos before editing them further. My plan was to then use Camtasia Studio 2019 to clip the longer videos into meaningful chunks, but it does not support MPEG-2. I've spent my time in quarantine time recording a bunch of old VHS / Hi8 / VHS-C / MiniDV home videos to MPEG-2.Īdmittedly, I know very little about video editing in general, but the RCA to USB device Dazzle DVD Recorder HD I'm using only records in that format. ![]()
